Beautiful (but only for people with CA background)

Most of the studies on child language or theory of mind are based on a quantitative approach. However, Wootton has used a conversation analysis approach (CA) which originates from sociologists (called "ethnomethodology"). It is a beautiful and convincing account on how a child develops request form (from yelling in distress, to imperatives, to 'I want', 'I like', 'Shall we', 'Can we', etc. These forms are due to the social cognition of the child and sequential understanding (how the conversation unfolds). He uses video-recording of his daughter (1-3;5) as a case study. One thing I'd say though is perhaps the title can be a little misleading. People who read it may be expecting a broader coverage but in fact I think this is single topic of request has exemplified the matter well.
