This very concise (63 pages of text) book is a nice overview of the history of medicine in early modern England. Porter covers the nature of medical practice, its impact (minimal), public attitudes towards medicine, and public attitudes towards illness and death. Historical trends are covered well. There is an excellent bibliography.
