This book is a series of essays on various facets of German culture, post-Bismarck. Written by academics, mostly but not exclusively from the UK. Some titles:

The functions of "Volkskultur", mass culture and alternative culture
German cinema
German national identity
So, you can see, not for the local high school AP classes in German or World History. If they'd only said "German MOVIES". But "cinema"? You know it'll be something that can't compete with the X-pad and the smartfone right there.

This was a very well crafted history lesson of Germany and its robust evolution. It enriched my appreciation for the Germanic culture.
